The uproar caused by Beth Greene’s death on AMC’s The Walking Dead has been a little… odd, to say the least. It’s certainly not the first time a fictional character’s death has caused an outcry but considering Beth’s character (mousy, timid, boring, irritating) it seems odd, at least to me. I don’t care about Beth. I never cared about Beth. Why? Because they didn’t make me care about Beth. She was a peripheral character who was not even there a lot of the time. When she was there, she was pointless and annoying. So why this huge reaction? I don’t know. Maybe because it was so sudden? Maybe because they devoted all of 5 seconds to it? I’m not sure. What I am sure of though is this “movement” to get her character back on the show is ridiculous.
The character of Beth Greene was shot in the head at point blank range. Her brains flew all over the camera. The hole in her head was the size of a grapefruit. She cannot come back from that. Not even as a zombie. Let it go, people. She’s gone.
This whole thing has also made me question some people’s sanity. I mean… it’s a TV show character. It’s not that big of a deal. Anyone who cares this much has way too much invested into a TV show. It’s great fun to talk about. It’s fun to think up ways they could bring her back or express superficial outrage at the way she was killed and things like that. But to actually be outraged, as some people are? To actually be angry, as some people are? That’s weird… and kind of creepy. Even if I cared about Beth, I would not be petitioning to bring her back to the show. It’s a TV show, people. Move on.
We all love TWD. Don’t ruin it with protests, petitions and movements, for God’s sake. Just let it be and enjoy the ride. Or get the hell out of the car, the rest of us want to keep riding.
PS: If you really love Emily Kinney, instead of ragging on about a situation that’s over, why not support her other projects? I personally am not a fan of her music at all but if you like her, support what she is doing now.
